February can be a depressing time in the garden, unless you have a few winter flowering feature plants to tempt you outside on the dark dingy days. Jasmine nudiflorum and Mahonia are flowering nicely and the Hamamelis (pictured) has just bloomed producing its delicious scent not far from the back door.

Meanwhile the scent from the Mahonia and Hamamelis are still strong. My daughter enjoyed smelling the Witch Hazel as much as the hyacinth on the kitchen windowsill, giving a long and satisfied sigh accompanied by a smile as she breathed it in.

One of the things I love about gardens is that there is always something to enjoy no matter how cold and dark the days, and I certainly want my garden to offer something throughout all four seasons. The scent of Mahonia and Witch hazel is a good start!
